Our Mission and Impact
The Mahaska County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a pivotal part of the preparedness of Mahaska County. An involved community is a well-prepared community, and your family's and friends' partnership with Mahaska County Emergency Management is the foundation of our homeland security and emergency management strategy.
Mission Statement
Mahaska County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) exists to support the preparedness, response, and recovery efforts of Mahaska County and surrounding communities. The team serves as a resource to Mahaska County Emergency Management and other jurisdictions throughout the State of Iowa by promoting disaster preparedness and providing trained volunteers capable of assisting during emergencies when professional responders may be delayed or overwhelmed.
CERT members help educate the public on disaster readiness and are trained in basic disaster response skills including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The team also encourages citizens to take an active role in emergency preparedness and community resilience efforts.
